Investing the Proceeds of a Business Sale

David had recently sold his share in a long-established family business, leaving him with a significant amount of cash to invest. While he was comfortable managing his business, he had limited experience with investments and was cautious about taking unnecessary risk.

Our Approach

David’s main concern was how to invest the proceeds in a way that would support his future plans, without exposing himself to undue volatility. Our adviser, Rebeca, worked with David to understand his objectives, including how the funds might be used to support his lifestyle, potential retirement plans, and wider family considerations.

From there, we recommended a structured investment approach, making use of tax-efficient arrangements such as ISAs alongside a diversified portfolio aligned with his attitude to investment risk and longer-term objectives. We also identified an opportunity to make pension contributions in a tax-efficient way, further strengthening his longer-term position.

Given the size of the investment, and David’s preference not to be involved in day-to-day decisions, we agreed a discretionary investment management arrangement, allowing us to oversee his portfolio on an ongoing basis and ensure it remains aligned with his objectives as markets and his circumstances evolve.

The Outcome

David now has a clear and structured approach to his finances, with the reassurance that both his investments and pension planning are being managed in a joined-up and considered way.
